As a marketer, I often advise clients to share their expertise and opinions in the form of a blog. Alternatively, they can express themselves through podcasts, or videos - whatever the medium, the important thing is to share what you know and what you think.
Used like this, blogs give you a forum for you to express yourself and communicate directly with your audience. It gives potential and existing clients an appreciation of your expertise, insights, opinions and personality. As a company you need to build trust with your customers. No matter what you're selling, you want customers to trust that you know what you've doing. Blogs can help reassure them that you've done it before, and that you won't lead them wrong this time either.
It doesn't hurt for SEO purposes either and a well-crafted blog can answer a customer's question right out of the gate.
However, generating truly useful and insightful content is hard, and requires thought, effort and consistency. I'm going to practice what I preach with this blog. The aim of this blog is to share marketing insights with small businesses, from me and other local Colorado professionals. Hopefully you'll find it interesting, and maybe you'll even learn something.
